Boston Renter Intelligence Report: Q3 2026 Status

The Q3 2026 collection window for the Boston Renter Intelligence Survey ran from July 1 through September 30, 2026. It received 33 responses, of which 30 met our validity rules. That is below the citywide minimum of 100 valid responses set in our published methodology, so no survey based index is published for Q3 2026.

Why there is no Q3 index

Before collecting a single response, we published the rules this survey would follow. They set a citywide minimum of 100 valid responses for any index, 15 for a neighborhood breakdown and 10 for a bedroom breakdown, and they state that a quarter below the citywide minimum “publishes its response count and states that no index was produced.” This page is that statement.

For the same reason, this release contains no neighborhood figures, no bedroom figures and no estimates built from the 30 valid responses. A small sample can produce a number that looks precise and is not. A gap in the series can be filled later; a misleading figure cannot be taken back once it has been quoted.

Read the full rules on the survey methodology page.

What the current Boston figures are

The B-RAI, B-RSI and B-NDI figures shown elsewhere on Homzora remain baseline estimates built from public sources, including the Census Bureau’s American Community Survey, Zillow Research, the Massachusetts Association of Realtors and MBTA ridership data, as described on the methodology page. They are not survey results, and they will stay labeled as baseline estimates until a quarter clears the minimum. The earlier baseline release is the Q2 2026 report.

What happens next

The Q4 2026 collection window opened on October 1 and closes on December 31, 2026. Each quarter is measured on its own responses. If Q4 reaches at least 100 valid responses, the first survey based Boston index will be published in January 2027. If it does not, we will publish the same kind of status release, with the count, and no index.

Other Homzora city editions

Survey forms are open in other Homzora city editions. They recorded 0 responses during Q3, so no city outside Boston has survey results for this quarter.

Add your response

If you rent in Greater Boston, the survey takes a few minutes and counts toward the Q4 release. Individual answers are never published.

Take the Boston Renter Survey

Counts reflect a correction made on October 8, 2026: from September 6 the survey form saved income answers as on screen labels, which the counting tool did not recognise. The answers themselves were unaffected, and no figures were changed by hand.
