DATA STATUS

Q2 2026 figures in these files are BASELINE ESTIMATES compiled from public
listing and municipal sources covering the Greater Boston rental market.
They are NOT survey-derived and should not be described as such.

The first survey-derived release is Q3 2026, publishing October 7, 2026.
Files are labelled by quarter. Check the quarter before citing.

B-RAI  Boston Rent Affordability Index
       Share of surveyed Greater Boston renters whose reported monthly rent
       exceeds 30% of reported gross monthly household income.

B-RSI  Boston Rent Stability Index
       Share of surveyed renters reporting they are likely or very likely to
       renew their current lease.

B-NDI  Boston Neighborhood Demand Index
       Share of surveyed renters reporting intent to move to a given
       neighborhood within 12 months, as a proportion of all move-intent
       responses that quarter.

Rent burden = monthly rent ÷ (income band midpoint ÷ 12).
Income band midpoints: 32,000 / 47,500 / 62,500 / 80,000 / 105,000 /
135,000 / 175,000. The top band is open-ended; 175,000 is a convention and
systematically understates burden for the highest earners.

A quarter that does not reach the citywide minimum publishes its response
count and NO index. Suppressed neighborhoods are reported as insufficient
sample; they are never estimated.

LIMITATIONS

Figures are self-reported by renters and are not verified against leases.
Respondents are self-selected from Homzora site visitors and are not a
probability sample of Greater Boston renters. Figures may be revised as
sample grows; revisions are published with the original figure and reason.
