Compare the actual rent, mandatory fees, utilities and commute for homes you would choose. A metro average cannot describe one apartment.
Different places. Different tradeoffs. Compare the price levels behind your next move, then explore the local research.
City names represent the metropolitan areas shown below. Prices vary within every metro.
These are 2024 relative price levels, not current listings, a personal cost forecast or a ranking of quality of life.
Each row compares the destination with your starting metro. Lower does not always mean lower in every category.

Housing is BEA’s housing services price index, using rental price levels for renters and owners. It is not a home purchase price index. Category indices are not shares of a household budget.
Enter monthly spending in your starting metro. We scale it by the overall price ratio to illustrate comparable purchasing power.

Compare the actual rent, mandatory fees, utilities and commute for homes you would choose. A metro average cannot describe one apartment.
Childcare, insurance, taxes, transport choices and household size can change the result. They are not separately calculated here.
Deposits, moving services and overlapping leases are one-time costs. Keep them separate from your ongoing monthly spending.
2024 regional price parity indices. U.S. average = 100. An overall index of 110 means an aggregate price level 10% above the national level.

Regional price parities (RPPs) compare price levels across places for the same year. This tool uses the U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis MARPP table, 2024 observations, released February 19, 2026 and retrieved October 18, 2026. Every comparison uses the same vintage. It does not measure changes in prices since 2024.
The five series are all items (line 1), goods (2), housing services (3), utilities (4) and other services (5). Overall values use BEA’s aggregation, not a simple average of the four categories. RPPs reflect broad consumption patterns, not a minimum living wage or a particular household’s shopping basket.
Destination difference = (destination index ÷ starting index − 1) × 100. Spending equivalent = your entered monthly amount × destination overall index ÷ starting overall index. We use the source’s three decimal places for calculations and show indices and percentages to one decimal place. Reversing cities changes the percentage because the starting base changes.
The spending result is a price-level illustration in the 2024 data frame. It is not inflation-adjusted to today, a recommended salary, a rent quote or a prediction. Differences under 0.05% display as approximately the same. The model does not account for your specific spending mix, income taxes, debts or moving costs.
Each of Homzora’s 50 city editions maps to one metropolitan statistical area using its five-digit CBSA code. The full BEA metro name is displayed beside each result and in the table. Some areas cross state lines. Inland Empire maps to Riverside–San Bernardino–Ontario; Washington DC maps to Washington–Arlington–Alexandria. This is not a comparison of municipal boundaries.
BEA uses OMB Bulletin 23-01 metropolitan delineations. Housing expenditure weights include imputed owner-occupied rents; rental price levels are used for renters and owners, and the housing index cannot be used to estimate a mortgage or a home sale price. Goods and other services combine many products and are not separate grocery, health care or transport estimates. No uncertainty interval is supplied in this extract; small differences should not drive a move by themselves.
